Russell Brand, a renowned animal hospital’s vice president, has been fired. The comic, 49, was accused of rape and sexual assault in response.
The Metropolitan Police wrote to Brand to let him know that he was facing charges of rape, oral rape, and two additional counts of sexual assault, and he has since refuted the allegations.
The comic had left his position as Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital’s vice-president, which he has been holding since 2019. The charity cares for British wildlife that is injured, or orphaned.
Colin Stocker, the hospital’s CEO, said in a statement to the Mirror that the hospital’s CEO, “met and immediately removed Mr. Brand from his ambassador position at Tiggywinkles indefinitely.” During any police investigation, we are unable to add any more information.
Brand responded to the accusations made last week in a new video posted to X by saying, “What I never was, was a rapist.” I’ve never engaged in “unconsensual behavior.”
He continued, “I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity I now have to defend these allegations in court.”
