Royal Ascot Preview & Leading Contenders

The Royal Meeting is on the horizon, and Royal Ascot is the crown jewel of the British flat racing calendar, blending world-class competition with tradition and style.

Elite thoroughbreds from all over the world are abound during this five-day meeting, and the upcoming edition promises to be just as thrilling and competitive as ever.

Horse racing expert Blackbook.com At Royal Ascot 2025, Australia has chosen some of the top contenders to make headlines.

St James’ Palace Stakes at Field of Gold

Field Of Gold will be hoping to recover from his disappointing defeat in the 2000 Guineas in the St James’ Palace Stakes, which will be held on Royal Ascot’s opening day.

Following his dominant victory in the Craven Stakes, John and Thady Gosden’s colt entered that Classic as the favorite. Field Of Gold was beaten into second place by Charlie Appleby’s Ruling Court after Kuran Shoemark gave the favorite an unusually quiet ride and left his challenge a little too late.

Following that Newmarket defeat, Shoemark lost his position as the Gosden retained rider. Field Of Gold can establish himself as the dominant three-year-old at Ascot before moving on to the Coral-Eclipse with Ruling Court set to face off in the Epsom Derby.

Prince of Wales’ stakes in economics

In May of last year, economics made an appearance while running away with the York Dante Stakes. William Haggas skipped the Epsom Derby with Economics despite much rumors that he could be supplemented, opting instead to run his rising star in a Group Two contest in Deauville in August.

Auguste Rodin’s mount then defeated Tom Marquand to win the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown. Despite not performing at his best in the British Champion Stakes at Ascot the following month, Economics will continue to be a promising horse in 2025 and will likely be priced relatively low in the feature race on day two.

Ascot Gold Cup vs. Kyprios

We might be discussing Kyprios as the best stayer flat racing has ever produced if he hadn’t been injured for a near-life-ending injury in early 2023.

In 2022, Aidan O’Brien’s star made six starts, including the Ascot Gold Cup, with a superb performance. Kyprios recovered from his injury with two second-place finishes in 2023 before coming back to top form last year, scoring on all seven of his starts.

Ryan Moore’s mount easily won the race at Navan in April when he reappeared. When Kyprios makes his third Ascot Gold Cup appearance in June, there will be no disputing the short-spending favorite.

Coronation Stakes at Desert Flower

Desert Flower, who ran out an impressive winner of the 1000 Guineas, completed a fantastic weekend for Godolphin. With a second Group One success in Newmarket, Willie Buick’s mount kept her unbeaten career record, enabling the boys in blue to win their fourth global Classic title in 48 hours.

On day four of Royal Ascot, Desert Flower might have to contend with a much tougher challenge in the Coronation Stakes. Lace Victoria, who was unbeaten when she was a youngster, will likely benefit greatly from her return to the 1000 Guineas. Zarigana, a French star, might make her Royal Meeting debut, giving this storied Group One for three-year-old fillies more depth.

Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes Storm Boy

During his pre-season stable tour, Aidan O’Brien witty things about Storm Boy. This gifted Justify son competed in some elite sprints for just under the age of 20 in Australia.
