Rod Stewart’s son Sean checks into rehab after ‘family intervention’

After struggling with a drug addiction, Rod Stewart is said to be “proud” of his son Sean. The actor checked himself into a “luxury” rehab.

Rod Stewart’s son Sean has reportedly checked himself to rehab after a “family intervention” after they picked up on his addiction.

Sean, born in 1980, is Rod’s third of eight children, shared with his first wife Alana Stewart. Unlike Londoner Rod, 80, Sean was born and raised in Los Angeles, and previously admitted that he got into drugs aged just 13 while partying in Beverley Hills as a schoolkid. Now, months after his split from wife Jody Weintraub, Sean is reportedly in rehab again after falling victim to a pill addiction.

A source told the Daily Mail that Sean knew the signs of addiction from his previous struggles, and recognised that “he was falling off the deep end again.” They added that: “There was a family intervention because they were worried. They are all able to see when Sean is sober and when he is not.”

Despite the family getting involved, the source claimed that Sean “voluntarily checked in” as his own choice, and added: “Rod is proud of him for getting help. He is expected to do a 90 day stay, which is the norm.” The Mirror has contacted Rod and Sean’s reps for comment.

The publication claims that Sean is staying at the Cliffside Malibu rehabilitation facility, which has hosted stars such as Kourtney Kardashian’s ex Scott Disick. The rehab centre describes itself as “luxury” on its website, and adds that it “wants our residents to feel like they are staying in a high-end boutique hotel.”

Sean’s rehab stint at Cliffside Malibu came after he was just 19 years old. The actor tragically overdosed shortly after the rehab and was later imprisoned for 90 days after entering a no-contest assault on a 19-year-old student.

The reality TV star has visited rehab numerous times since then, and he has previously explained how his drug problem started in high school in California. At the age of 21, I would smoke cigarettes and drink cannabis. It was very easy for me to get drugs”, he said of being a 13-year-old in Beverly Hills.

Someone would hand them to me at a party, I would just walk in. I never, ever, paid for them. First, I got really badly into ecstasy. Then I started on the prescription pills like Vicodin, and then cocaine. And finally I got into heroin”.

Just last year, Sean suffered another personal blow when he split from wife Jody, less than a year after they tied the knot in February 2023. “They were doing so well for so long but then things went haywire earlier this year.” But according to the insider, it became clear the pair weren’t compatible, with them “fighting a lot over everyday things,” a source told the Daily Mail.

Jody and Sean seemed to enjoy a quiet, relaxing lifestyle together in contrast to his partying youth, and were “family-oriented” with Sean becoming a stepdad to Jody’s young son Doc. The source gushed over Sean’s sweet bond with Doc soon after the marriage, describing: “They go to the beach, he reads him books, he takes him to karate class, they play Magna-Tile. They’re cute together!”
