Rod Stewart, 80, called out a fan in the crowd after seeing something he didn’t like as he belted out Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? at the gig in Athens, Greece, last night
Rocker Rod Stewart let rip at a fan during a bizarre mid-gig argument over a sign. Music legend Rod was playing at a venue in Athens, Greece, when he unleashed a sudden verbal volley at the audience member. The 80-year-old was performing 25 tracks during his shows which include his classics including classics Maggie May, You Wear It Well and Hot Legs.
But it was during his hit Do Ya Think I’m Sexy? that things took a turn appeared to take aim at someone who had an issue with another fan holding up a sign. Gesticulating at the front of the stage, Rod screamed into the mic: “Out the f***ing way. You’re spoiling the show for everybody. Out the way. Leave. We don’t need you here!”
He wasn’t done there, and yelled: “All she’s doing is putting up a sign. It’s not hurting you is it, mate?” Turning his back on the problem, he spoke to the band said: “OK, from the top… where we left off.” A clip of the incident found its way onto TikTok.
Some suggested Rod, carrying a football during the row, was still smarting for his beloved Celtic’s humiliation hours earlier. St Mirren wrestled the Premier Sports Cup from their grasp with a 3-1 Hampden Park triumph on Sunday as the club’s season went from bad to worse.
Sir Rod ran into a spot of bother whilst filming a promotional clip for his whisky brand earlier this month. The 80-year-old father of eight was in the Netherlands shooting content for social media, but found himself at a loss trying to pronounce the name of the Dutch retailer properly.
The store is called Gall & Gall, but Rod struggled with the Dutch pronunciation, which sounds like “Ghall” with a guttural “gh”. In footage shared on Instagram, he wore a tweed Crombie coat over dark trousers and a dark V-neck jumper, with a white shirt and dark tie visible beneath. The Maggie May hitmaker clutches a bottle of his Wolfie’s Blended Scotch Whisky as he strolls towards the camera.
Rod’s wife Penny Lancaster gave a fascinating insight into her life with rock legend recently, and told the Mirror that she would love to spend more time with him in the garden. “I love the idea of doing my own gardening show, maybe even based out of Durrington,” she tells us, referring to Durrington House, the 18th-century Grade II-listed Hertfordshire estate that she and Rod have shared for 12 years.
Spread across over 50 acres, the grounds boast a walled garden, a 48sqm greenhouse, formal topiary, a woodland area and eight beehives.
“I’m learning more about different varieties of plants with [our] head gardener. I love being amongst nature. When things are getting too much, if I spend time in some greenery, by a source of water, listening to birds, in the rain or the sunshine, it feels like an injection of goodness. It’s not an everyday thing but I hug trees a lot. Rod and I both do!”
