Robo Shankar dead: Beloved Lion King star dies at 46 one day after collapsing on set

Just one day after being taken to the hospital after a sudden collapse on the set of his most recent project, beloved actor and comedian Robo Shankar tragically passed away at the tender age of 46.

The Tamil star’s health quickly deteriorated on Wednesday, September 18th, when he was admitted to an ICU in Chennai after fainting. At the hospital’s arrival, he reportedly received a diagnosis of liver and kidney failure.

He was most well-known for playing Pumbaa in Disney’s 2019 film The Lion King, and he made his comeback with Mufasa: The Lion King in 2024. Fans were concerned because he had only recently recovered from jaundice and lost a sizable amount of weight while he was recovering.

After performing robot acts in television and in communities, the actor became known as Robo. After a string of uncredited roles, he rose to fame with his performance in Vijay Sethupathi’s Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumar. He first made his film debut in 1997.

He was subsequently forced out of his job and most recently appeared on Sun TV’s cooking-based reality series Top Cooku Dupe Cooku, where he was later declared ineligible.

Kamal Haasan, a fellow Tamil actor, paid so much to Robo on X. “Robo Shankar,” Robo is merely a pseudonym. You are a human, according to my dictionary. My younger brother is you. Will you just leave and leave? You have finished what you did. My task is still unfinished. You have to pick us up tomorrow. Therefore, he declared that tomorrow will be ours.

After hearing the devastating news, supporters gathered to pay their respects. The poem “Robo Shankar was a real entertainer,” which was written in “RIP, Annaiku Kalaila 5 Mani, #RIP.

“Robo Shankar, a multitalented individual, passed away too soon. Another person contributed, “RIP.” “Life is unexpected, enjoy your moments every day,” a third person said. He was only 46 years old. RIP Robo Shankar.

Robo first gained notoriety by hosting stand-up comedy for STAR Vijay’s Kalakka Povathu Yaaru. After that, he was regular on a number of network programs and eventually started hosting them.

By the time he passed away, he had appeared in well over 50 movies, despite only starting out in the industry in 1997. He also appeared on television regularly and competed in the 2018 Kings of Comedy Juniors.

He leaves his daughter, Indraja Shankar, and his wife, Priyanka Robo Shankar, behind. Indraja, his daughter, appeared on Zee Tamil’s Survivor program and her acting career began in Bigil as a female football player.

His wife Priyanka Shankar joined Kanni Maadam in 2020, while his wife, Priyanka, has also made an acting debut.

On Thursday, September 18, his ashes will be transported to his residence in Chennai’s Valasaravakkam, and his final rites will be held there on Friday, September 19.
