Robbie Williams took to Instagram to share a candid message with his followers and was met with an influx of support by famous faces including Kris Jenner and Paris Hilton
Singer Robbie Williams has candidly opened up about his anxiety issues and has received an influx of support from famous faces. The former Take That star, 51, revealed how interactions with fans can “spike” the issue in a heartfelt post on Instagram.
He took to the social media platform to describe a recent incident on board a flight in America. “I’ve had three interactions so far with fellow passengers,” he explained. “One of them handed my a lovely note – kind words about my documentary – and then asked for a photo. “
The star revealed how he sent a note back to explain he had “been up since 4. 30am, had two hours’ sleep, and wrangled four kids through the airport”. He also candidly confessed to dealing with anxiety before saying anybody approaching him for a photo would cause it to “spike” due to the further attention it would cause.
“That kind of attention would only pile more anxiety on top of my already-thriving ‘being outside’ unease,” he added. However, he revealed he didn’t reject her request, but simply tried to explain how many people had a photo with him, but no-one had the same handwritten note.
Robbie went on to explain the same situation happened again after a steward approached him. He added he then wrote a similar note on his plane ticket, explaining he was about to have a busy time guiding his four kids through the airport and again hoping a note would be a good substitute.
However, he revealed that while writing the note, a third passenger approached, asking fora photo outright. He revealed he obliged with the request, saying he sees it as “being of service. If it makes someone happy – and I can – then I’ll do my best to facilitate that happiness,” he said. But he admitted it wasn’t always that way.
However, he requested people took the scenario into question, admitting it often feels like there is a “kind of unspoken law: as a celebrity, you should be accessible 24/7. ” Robbie said it feels like you do it with a smile, or don’t and be labelled a “c***”.
He revealed how it’s a daily situation for him, with strangers approaching him on average 20 times a day. He admitted it makes him “panic” before he went on to ask in which situation he would be able to reject a request.
“I was on the phone to my wife the other day – she was in flood of tears about her mum. Is it okay for me to say no to a photo request then? ,” he asked. “What if I’m having a challenging mental health day – is it okay if I don’t want that captured by a stranger?
He continued to list situations he has dealt with, before telling his followers he isn’t telling them not to ask him, he just pleaded: “Let people be people. Humans, struggling- like we all are – in one way or another. Allow people the dignity of their privacy, their wants, their needs. “
The Rock DJ singer confessed his request is “not a moan”, insisting it was just “something I needed to get off my chest”. And his candid words were met with wide praise from his fans and many famous faces on his friends list.
Among those appreciating his post was Kris Jenner, who commented: “Wow. So beautifully said and I really understand this… thanks for being so brave and vulnerable and for explaining this so thoughtfully and so well…sending love. God Bless. “
Paris Hilton also praised the star, admitting his post made her cry. “Love you bro, thank you for being vulnerable and saying how you feel,” she added.
Amanda Holden simply replied with an emoji face with love heart eyes while fellow singer Amy Macdonald shared her story, writing: “Someone asked me for a photo once when I was at the vet crying because my dog had just been put to sleep. I was crying in the photo because I felt I couldn’t say no, for all the reasons you’ve mentioned here.”
