
The Rivers State Interprofessional Anti-Quackery Committee has ordered the state’s six subpar health facilities sealed, detained, and summoned for disciplinary action some others for alleged quackery and related crimes.
The committee’s representative, Hope Avundaa, said in a statement that the operations on Friday, August 22, 2025 targeted clinics, pharmacies, and makeshift hospitals that had been discovered to be operating illegally.
One of the suspects, who allegedly posed as a doctor and provided maternity and surgical services without proper permits, allegedly operated on one of the facilities, which was later revealed as a three-bedroom apartment that had been converted into a hospital.  ,
No certified medical personnel were discovered on the premises and the facility’s registration was said to have been revoked more than ten years ago.  ,
Additionally, the suspect is said to be facing quackery and impersonation charges.

Another facility, a three-room hospital-style structure, was sealed in the same way.  ,
Under the supervision of a one-month post-internship doctor, the center reportedly conducted surgeries and provided training for auxiliary nurses.  ,
The Nigerian Medical Association’s (NMA) and the Rivers State Ministry of Health’s (Ross State) disciplinary panel dealt with both the proprietor and the young doctor.
An auxiliary nurse who was uncovered operating consultations and prescribing intravenous drugs also received a notice of the crackdown.  ,
The Director of Pharmaceutical Services received a referral for the case after the premises were closed.  ,
The committee in Okporo sealed an unregistered nursing school, a residential duplex that doubled as an NGO, and a medical center.  ,
Its owner was called in for a second investigation.
Further, the committee’s statement revealed that it was looking into allegations against one Rejoice Ogubie, a patent-dealer accused of using IV and traditional birth services, in Aluu.  ,
She was given a harsh warning and an instruction to keep her services to over-the-counter medications even though she denied the allegations.
