Campbell Hatton hinted at how Brooke Heaton is helping him find solace following his dad’s death, telling pals: ‘Started getting things back together over the last few weeks. Long way to go still but here’s to a better 2026’
Ricky Hatton’s son has found love with the daughter of one of the late boxing legend’s best friends.
Campbell Hatton, 25, is being supported in his grief by Brooke Heaton, whose dad is non-league football boss Simon Heaton. Simon, 51, knew Ricky, who took his own life in September aged 46, from when they were young and described him as his best pal.
The pair have gone public with their relationship in recent days, including earlier today when Brooke, 22, wished Campbell happy birthday on Instagram. In a touching post, which included a number of photos of them together, she wrote: “Happy birthday Campbell. You are so special. Have the best day, I love u.”
Campbell, who has a seven-year-old daughter with a former partner, enjoyed a New Year holiday with Brooke alongside other loved ones, with the pair posting pictures of themselves together during the trip on social media.
Commenting on one image taken of them, pal Chelle Wray said: “Aw, you’re with Simons daughter, love this…you look lovely together. Keep on keeping on Campbell..
“We’re all wanting to see you and the family push on through in one piece. No rush..baby steps all the way..and always in your own time too Xx”. Andrea Mellor added: “Be happy you’re dad would approve. Love from Benidorm.”
Campbell and Brooke have also posted a series of other loved-up pictures of themselves together in recent weeks, including at a football match watching Ricky’s beloved Manchester City. Other images showed Campbell with his arms round Brooke’s waist in front of a mirror and her cuddling him in a restaurant.
Brooke’s dad Simon appeared in the 2023 film documentary ‘Hatton’, which included Ricky admitting to wanting to “drink myself to death” during mental health battles. Simon appeared alongside four of Ricky’s other close pals in the Harehill Tavern, which Simon’s family run and Ricky was a regular.
Speaking in it about the sporting talent Ricky showed from a young age, Simon said: “You’d be upstairs in the pub and you’d just hear ‘bang…bang. What’s that noise? It would be Ricky downstairs banging the [punch] bags.”
Simon, who now manages North West Counties League Premier Division side Abbey Hey FC, added: “He was a good footballer as well. We used to organise football tournaments and if you didn’t have Rick on your side your ankles were black and blue. You didn’t pick him on your team, you were f*****.”
Ricky went on to win world titles at light-welterweight and welterweight and fought some of the greatest fighters ever during a glittering 15-year career. He defeated ring greats such as Kostya Tszyu and Jose Luis Castillo before later suffering heartbreaking defeats to superstars Floyd Mayweather Jnr in 2007 and Manny Pacquiao in 2009.
Ricky, who was awarded an MBE in 2007, reportedly left a £40million fortune for his children, including Campbell, Millie, 13, and Fearne, 12. Campbell was himself once tipped to be a promising boxer, but Ricky announced last year that his son had quit the ring to become a solar panel installer.
Ricky’s funeral saw hundreds of mourners, including celebs such as boxing champ Tyson Fury and Oasis singer Liam Gallagher, pack inside Manchester Cathedral for an emotional farewell in October.
As well as losing his dad, Campbell also suffered the death of his own best friend Justin Chappell in March last year. And he was left devastated again when his dad’s pal Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield, bassist in the Stone Roses, died aged just 63 in November.
In a message, posted on Facebook on Wednesday, Campbell alluded to the tragedies, while also hinting how Brooke is helping him recover. He wrote: “Late one but spent new year in my dads favourite place. 2025 as bad is it can get for me and mine.
