Return to Silent Hill, the third installment of the Silent Hill film series, will be released today (January 23) in theaters. However, fans are only just beginning to realize the series’ eerie true story.

Return to Silent Hill, the third film in the Silent Hill franchise, was released, but it turns out there is a creepy backstory to the series that many viewers are unaware of. Return to Silent Hill, which was released on Friday (23rd January), is specifically based on Silent Hill 2, and the psychological horror film franchise has a similar name.

However, the fictional town of Silent Hill that the film adaptations would use was inspired by a tragic American town that had gone through a similar tragedy. In the movies and video games, Silent Hill is depicted as a location in West Virginia. However, if you travel to Pennsylvania, you’ll discover a real town that’s just as gloomy and uninspiring.

Due to its strange connection to Silent Hill, the town of Centralia is a favorite for fans of video games and film enthusiasts, despite the strict prohibition against visiting the area.

Centralia won’t have any monsters, but fog is one of the other key characteristics that makes Silent Hill so distinctive.

In an effort to remove waste, Centralia’s local government burned the neighborhood landfill in 1962. A coal mine that had been abandoned by the unopened tunnels that led to it ignited a fire that is still burning today, over 60 years later.

Centralia was ordered to be evacuated for the safety of its citizens, just like Silent Hill, because local firefighters were unable to extinguish the flame. People in Centralia should steer clear of exposing themselves to the environment for a long period of time because the air there is deemed dangerous.

Most people left Centralia after it was evacuated, but a small number did, and a church is still standing in one of the buildings. Only a select few residents of the fictional town still attend church services, which is very similar to the Silent Hill story.

Centralia was not the main focus of Silent Hill’s developers’ plans, but the film series did draw inspiration from the fictional setting, which is now known as “real-Silent Hill.”

Due to its connection to Silent Hill, Centralia has attracted a lot of video game and film fans, including a TikTok user who posted a video in which he traveled to the ostensible ghost town.

In a forest area with dead trees, empty streets, and a shot of the only remaining structure, the operational church were captured on footage from Centralia, which revealed smoke still erupting from the planet in a field of empty air.

I visited the real-life Silent Hill, he said in the caption of his video. Due to an underground coal fire that has been burning since the 1960s, Centralia, Pennsylvania, was abandoned. A church, a municipal building, and houses are the only remaining structures in the town today.

The US Department of Environmental Protection claims that anyone visiting the area that is encircled by the Centralia Mine Fire is a very dangerous risk.

They claim that the ground is “prone to sudden and unexpected collapse” as well as “dangerous gases” brought on by the fire.
