Respect for Nigerians’ rights is a top priority for military operations in the country, according to the Nigerian Army.
Major General GU Chibuisi, the head of civil-military affairs, delivered this statement at a workshop to encourage soldiers from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) to improve their behavior during military operations and with civilian interactions.
The workshop in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba state, aims to provide guidance on how to deal with evolving security threats and ensure strict compliance with international law.
The 6 Brigade, Nigeria Army’s public relations officer, Captain Olubodunde Oni, stated in a press release that the engagement was part of its ongoing effort to advance professionalism and respect for human rights within the army.
The Nigerian Army and its personnel are in enormous responsibilities as a result of these operations. Therefore, we must always advise our troops on the rules governing their conduct. He reaffirmed that the protection of human rights must remain a pillar of our activities.
General Chibuisi added that the workshop was intended to foster moral behavior among allies while also promoting the inclusion of law-abiding soldiers.
Brigadier General Kingsley Uwa, the commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, earlier emphasized the importance of the training in strengthening the Brigade’s commitment to professionalism and the protection of fundamental human rights.
The brigade commander notes that 6 Brigade troops displayed exemplary restraint, which led to no casualties, while applauding the brigade’s strict rules, professionalism, and law-abiding behavior during the nationwide protests.
This program serves as both a refresher and solemn reminder of our commitment to safeguard lives and property. I applaud the DCMA for introducing this initiative to the 6th Brigade and for encouraging our troops to take active part and use the lessons learned,” he said.
Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the chief of the army, is a man of extraordinary dedication to the welfare, development, and professional development of Nigerian Army personnel.
A number of lectures were given at the sensitisation workshop on family cohesion, psychoactive substance abuse, professional conduct of employees, and human rights.
