Terry Luttrell, the singer behind the REO Speedwagon, has been taken to the hospital after colliding with a car. After being involved in the collision, the 78-year-old musician reportedly suffered a number of injuries.
Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, was the site of the accident on Sunday, but Terry has since given an interview to the area’s news. He admitted to having slept at the wheel of his car, which was destroyed after he drank.
The rock band frontman was not seriously hurt, even though he was able to flee the wreckage. He revealed that he had been experiencing pain elsewhere in his body and broke one of his bones in his chest.
He claimed, “It just happened,” according to The News-Gazette. I nodded off. When I rolled over, I realized that the airbags were in a cocoon. Unfortunately, the car was totaled.
He continued to state that he had suffered a number of injuries and that he had been able to get out of the car after the incident.
He said, “I a little bit cracked my sternum.” My neck and back pain are a little bit bad. Nothing can’t be overridden, in fact.
Terry’s weekend, which included a performance, an after party, and mingling with fans, was detailed in the local news report. After performing on stage and following an after-party, he recounted signing autographs well into the night of Saturday.
He reportedly arrived at the party at 2 a.m. on Sunday morning only to meet the fans looking for autographs. He didn’t go to sleep until 4:30 a.m.
The star then arrived in St. Louis early that morning for business. He stated that he was “a little sleepy” but assumed he was fit enough to travel.
He was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital after the accident, and the News-Gazette records that he is still there to recover from his injuries.
The night before his accident, Terry had been performing in a farewell show. He stated, “Everyone in the band was excited, quoting from the details of the gig. Simply put, it was a fun evening.
It turned out exactly as we had anticipated. A one-time performance was never held in the same way. It was a pretty big deal to say you were there.
Terry is known for his work with REO Speedwagon despite having previously played in another band called Starcastle. In 1968, he joined the band and released hit singles like “Can’t Fight This Feeling” in his place as frontman Mike Blair.
