A “gentle and strong” reality TV star and former professional athlete who lost his battle with a devastating brain tumor at the age of 39 has received many tributes.

A pro athlete turned reality TV star has died aged only 39, following a heartbreaking battle with a brain tumour. Roxana Moise found fame on Exatlon Romania, a show inspired by the global telly hit Survivor.

Before appearing on the show, Roxana had been a handball pro. She played for Olchim Ramnicu Valcea, but her pro sport days were cut short by a knee injury sustained in 2012. She spent some time as a referee of the sport and later worked as a fitness instructor.

Roxana eventually participated in Exalton Romania, in which participants were grouped into teams. She was a member of the Warriors’ team, which placed fifth overall in the TV series about endurance competitions.

When announcing the death, her family did not disclose a cause of death, but in recent months Roxana had been battling a brain tumour and would often wear a turban to hide her short hair. Her former coach Nicoleta Lazar, told Romanian sports site Fanatik that Roxana had been “very sick” but was still “optimistic”.

She explained that she and some other athletes she had trained had just spoken to each other three months prior. She texted us in the evening that she was ill and couldn’t come back. I believe we had spoken for at least an hour before.

She continued, “Ma’am, I’ll get better. You’ll see. ‘ However, it was obvious that she was already oubliing the subject. She had a lot of optimism.

Friends and former teammates emailed their condolences. You left behind a void that no one else can fill, according to one author. You left too soon, but we will always be in awe of your kindness, light, and love.

Another person described Roxana as a “rare” type of person, saying, “You were a rare, kind, gentle, and strong woman with a kindness that I have rarely encountered.”

Roxana works as a sports and fitness instructor for a secondary school in North West Bucharest after performing Exalton Romania. Additionally, she established a women’s only fitness facility. Three children are left behind her.
