Brazilian-Portuguese TV star and DJ Maycon Douglas, 26, vanished on New Year’s Eve after spending the night DJing at a bar before going home with a friend
The body of a reality TV star and DJ has been discovered washed up on a popular tourist beach, one week after he went missing. Maycon Douglas, 26, vanished on New Year’s Eve after being spotted DJing at a bar before heading home with a friend. A week after his disappearance, Maycon’s body was found washed ashore on Wednesday.
Before this grim discovery, authorities had already located his car submerged in the sea at North Beach, Nazaré, north of Lisbon, Portugal. Maycon was retrieved from the water by fisherman Antonio Silva, who identified the DJ by his tattoos.
The body was found near the same spot where his car was discovered. Maycon’s mother, after days of anguish without news of her son, fell ill and needed to be hospitalised the day before his was discovered.
His girlfriend Raquel Coelho has paid a tribute to him on social media. She said: “I would give anything to have you back, anything. You appeared in my life unexpectedly, and you don’t know how grateful I am that you did.”
Although Brazilian, Maycon had lived in Portugal since he was four years old. The police are waiting for the results of an autopsy to establish his exact cause of death. They have not yet ruled out the possibility of foul play.
Maycon rose to fame on season 8 of the Portuguese reality show ‘Secret Story – Casa dos Segredos’ broadcast by TVI. He built up an impressive online following on Instagram and TikTok where he had 50,000 and 22,000 followers respectively.
He regularly shared his routine to his followers, including photo shoots and performances on the electronic music circuit in Portugal. His last post was on December 30, the day before his disappearance. He wrote: “2025 was intense. We learned a lot, and lived even more. 2026 is about vision, discipline, and consistency.”
The tragedy comes after a popular Australian DJ died in a horror accident while on holiday in Bali last January. Courtney Mills, 37, was visiting her two dogs on the island when she fell from a balcony at the hotel where she was staying in Kuta, a beach resort on the south coast.
The Melbourne DJ sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital. Courtney tragically passed away surrounded by her family two days later, after undergoing emergency surgery. Courtney’s heartbroken older sister Kiana shared on Instagram: “It is with such a heavy heart that we share the news of Courtney’s passing. Mum and I arrived in Bali Saturday and were with her by her side right until the end.”
