Monyetta Shaw-Carte, the star of Real Housewives of Atlanta, has revealed that she has been secretly battling breast cancer and has had surgery and radiotherapy earlier this year.
Monyetta Shaw-Carte, the star of Real Housewives of Atlanta, has revealed her cancer battle. Since 2022, the reality star, age 45, has been starring in the Atlanta-based adaptation of the wildly popular franchise.
She is a member of the Housewives of Atlanta cast, along with Shamea Morton Mwangi, Kenya Moore, and Sheree Whitfield. Monica has revealed that she has been secretly battling a medical condition.
She revealed that she had concerns about breast cancer ten years prior and that she was diagnosed with stage 1 invasive ductal carcinoma in November of 2024. She has shared details about her health battle while raising awareness about the value of self-checking.
I had a biopsy about ten years ago, and it came back benign. Then, in September, I did a self-check because I suddenly felt something in my left boob.
It felt unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. Literally speaking, it felt like something was wrong when my body sensed it. The TV star was having a routine mammogram the following month when a lump was discovered.
In January of this year, she had surgery to remove the growth before going through 16 rounds of gruesome radiation therapy. However, the medical procedures have worked out well, and she was able to ring the bell at the start of last month, indicating that her treatment has come to an end.
She stated, “I will be here for my kids because I caught the cancer early.” Nothing is more crucial than regular checkups and early detection to safeguard your future. Our health is irreplaceable, she continued. My heartfelt doctors and nurses deserve more praise. Our heroes are them.
Breast cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer in the UK, according to Cancer Research UK, who reports that 56,800 new breast cancer cases are diagnosed in the UK each year. When early detection is needed, the illness is highly treatable.
Although the origin of breast cancer is still unknown, it is more prevalent in older women over 50, can be inherited from relatives, and can be inherited from those who already have a history of the disease, such as benign breast disease, ductal carcinoma in situ, or lobular carcinoma in situ.
Additionally, researchers have discovered that those who carry the BRCA1 gene are more prone to developing breast cancer. Preventive surgery can be performed and the gene can be tested for.
After learning that she had the gene, American actress Dame Angelina Jolie had a double mastectomy in February 2013. She revealed that the procedure had been performed to raise awareness of breast cancer and the treatments available.
Because there are so many women who don’t realize they might be living in the shadow of cancer, she said at the time.
“It is my hope that they will be able to get gene tested as well, and that, in the event of a high risk, they will also be aware of their strong options.” After battling ovarian and breast cancer, Angelina lost her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, in 2007. She passed away at the age of 56.
