In the semi-finals of the Washington Open, Russian qualifier Anna Kalinskaya defeated Britain’s Emma Raducanu 6-4, 6-3.

The 22-year-old served five aces early on, but she was unable to convert any of her four break point opportunities, which has allowed her to reclaim her British number one spot from Katie Boulter.

On her way to clinching the first set, Kalinskaya, who is 48th in the world and two places below Raducanu, capitalized on a break in the ninth game.

The two engaged in early breaks in the second set before the 26-year-old Russian regained control and broke once more to seal the victory.

“It was a fascinating match,” he said. Kalinskaya, who wants to win her first WTA 500 title, said it’s nice to play against her. “I’m proud of myself,” I said. I kept my plan and remained aggressive.

After winning the third-placed Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina in a thrilling encounter that included three tie-breaks, Kalinskaya will face Leylah Fernandez in Sunday’s final.

Fernandez, who Raducanu beat to win her US Open title in 2021, prevailed 6-7 (2-7) 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-3) after three hours and 12 minutes.

Australia’s Alex de Minaur defeated Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the men’s semi-final with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
