A radio DJ for the breakfast show has returned from a hospital where he had major heart attack surgery and has promised to be back on the mend.

Heart 80s DJ Simon Beale has revealed that he was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery after suffering a heart attack. The 53-year-old said he is generally healthy and therefore didn’t think he was having a heart attack at first.

Simon, who hosts the breakfast slot on Heart 80s, shared a black and white picture of himself to Instagram. In the picture he was attached to several wires and in a hospital bed.

He revealed that he had a heart attack while walking his dog three weeks ago. In the caption, he wrote, “Even when it was happening, I was trying to convince myself that it couldn’t be a heart attack.”

I’m 53 years old, have never smoked, exercise 10,000 miles per day, and eat generally well. I called 999 because I couldn’t stop the paralyzing pain that was happening to my chest.

According to the NHS, the best ways to prevent a heart attack are to stick to healthy diet, avoiding too many fats and salts, to exercise regularly, avoid smoking, limiting alcohol intake and manage your blood pressure. But it is important to note that heart attacks can still happen, even if you live a very healthy lifestyle. If you think you are having a heart attack, you should call the emergency services immediately.

I had two stents placed in my heart’s main artery, which was completely blocked, within a few hours, Simon continued. “I had left my regular Monday (work, shopping, and dog walking), and I had to go through life-saving surgery, get in an ambulance, and get ready for the long road to recovery, wired up to numerous monitors.

He continued, “It’s obviously been a massive shock, but it’s also made me even more grateful, not just for life itself, but also for the incredible people around me.”

He also added that the NHS is “phenomenal” and that he received “exceptional” care in a sweet addition. “The NHS were (and still are) phenomenal. I am beyond grateful to every doctor, nurse, consultant, specialist, and hospital employee who treated me for 8 nights. They saved my life. They are genuine heroes.

My family, who gave up everything to make sure I was okay, friends who called, messaged, and have sincere action taken in the past, and my work family at Heart &amp, Global (as well as the award teams I was supposed to work with), who have been incredibly kind, kind, considerate, and thoughtful. Thank you so much.

He continued, “I’m now recovering at home, getting used to a new diet and a cocktail of medication,” taking it as needed. I still have a long way to go, but I’m slowly improving and working again soon. I’m not going to lose sight of the radio station I work for, though.
