Qatar’s emir accuses Israel of trying to derail Gaza truce talks

Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, a member of the Qatar-based UN General Assembly, criticized Israel’s “treacherous attack” against Hamas leaders in a speech.

He reaffirmed Israel’s status as a “rogue” state and warned that the attack “undermines any diplomatic efforts aimed at putting an end to the genocide against the people of Gaza.”

Israel targeted Hamas leaders on September 9 as they discussed the most recent ceasefire proposal from US President Donald Trump, an act Qatari called “state terrorism.” Six people were killed in the unprecedented bombing that sparked a global outcry despite top Hamas leadership’s survival of the assassination attempt.

The emir claimed that the September 9 strike “amounted to a political assassination” when he spoke in New York on Tuesday.

Qatar, one of the key negotiations between Israel and Hamas, had been attempting to broker a ceasefire in Gaza at the time of the attack. Trump expressed regret over the attack, but he did not condemn Israel. Qatar, where US troops are stationed, will not be the target of such attacks, according to Washington’s promise.

Israel is a “genocider.”

Sheikh Tamim lambasted Israel, accusing it of “negotiating] with delegations” and of plotting “to assassinate the members of the negotiation teams.”

“Cooperation with a mentality that disregards the most basic standards of cooperation is challenging.”

The Qatari emir added that Israel views negotiations as “a deception of the Israeli public opinion and a continuation of war.” He claimed that Israel was trying to “destroy Gaza so that it is unlivable and where no one can study or get treated.”

Israel claims to be a democratic nation surrounded by enemies, but the emir claimed it is actually a “genocide” and an enemy of its neighbors.

He added that Israel has tried to call opponents of its policies “antisemitic or terrorist,” a tactic that “even Israel’s allies realize and reject”.

Later, the emir made connections between present struggles and those of the past, citing “an international solidarity movement that is comparable to the international movement against apartheid last century.”

One of the darkest moments, in my opinion.

The UN’s annual gathering’s proceedings continued to be dominated by Israel’s war on Gaza, which was accompanied by Sheikh Tamim’s remarks. Since Israel’s relentless war broke out, more than 65 000 Palestinians have died.

Donald Trump, the president of the US, stated on Tuesday that the war needed to be “immediately stopped,” while Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the president of Turkey, said that “everyone who keeps silent compels themselves to this barbarism.”

King Abdullah II of Jordan referred to Israel’s conflict in Gaza as “one of the darkest moments in this institution’s history” and cited decades of injustices as supporting the conflict.

How long will it take for us to be satisfied with condemnation after condemnation has already been made? According to him, what happens in the halls of power seems to be theory and the struggles and suffering on the ground are reality when it comes to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Among the leaders who are scheduled to address the Assembly is French President Emmanuel Macron.

Diffusion of international leaders’ demands for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict were convened by France and Saudi Arabia on Monday.

The growing list of nations that recognize Palestinian statehood includes France, Andorra, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, and Monaco.

calls for the protection of human rights

Following a landmark report released by a commission of the UN Human Rights Council that discovered that Israel had committed a genocide in Gaza, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also passionately defended human rights.

The report has been withdrawn by the US and Israel, both of whom oppose the council. Earlier this year, the Trump administration withdrew from the organization.

“We must pick a country with human rights and dignity.” According to Guterres, human rights are not merely a symbol of peace; they are its foundation. More than words can be used to define rights. Justice is preferred over silence, in my opinion.

The Qatari leader continued, citing “the international rules-based order must be respected by everyone,” as well as “broader concerns about violations of international law.”

Sheikh Tamim stated that these guidelines are based on the protection of international peace and security, respect for human dignity, and the rule of non-interfering with internal affairs, as well as cooperating for the benefit of our peoples.
