Since his father, King Charles, acceded to the throne following the passing of his mother the Queen in September 2022, Prince William has been the Duke of Cornwall for just over two years.

The Royal Family, particularly King Charles and Prince William, have experienced significant changes in recent years. With the passing of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022, Charles ascended to the throne, while William inherited the title of Prince of Wales.

Along with this new role, William also became the Duke of Cornwall, taking on the stewardship of the Duchy of Cornwall estate, a responsibility his father had held for over five decades. In the ITV documentary ‘Prince Charles: Inside the Duchy of Cornwall’, viewers witnessed an unprecedented glimpse into Charles’s deep connection with the estate.

And the documentary featured a heartfelt scene in which Charles was clearly moved by William’s prediction for the estate’s future.

William is spotted talking about the private estate with second-generation farmer Mervyn Keeling during the program. William reflected on how he might end up with the Duchy in the future and what he will do with it. I believe the family perspective is very important, and I believe it to be.

I was suddenly struck by the realization that hearing only from him had made the previous 50 years worthwhile.

William became a patron of the Duchy of Cornwall-supported charity We Are Farming Minds, which helps farmers who are struggling with isolation and mental health issues, earlier this year.

After Sam attempted suicide in response to his struggles with his mental health, he was accompanied by his founders, Duchy tenants Sam and Emily Stables, who had just opened Folly Farm on their Hertfordshire farm in 2020. William and Emily Stables were also there when William and Emily Stables made their way to the 250-acre nature reserve.

The couple met William and the Princess of Wales in 2023 and took them on a tour of their Kings Pitt Farm in Aconbury to discuss the charity. William joined Sam, Emily and Hope for a fireside chat about mental health in front of a group of 60 from the next generation of duchy tenant farmers.

The session was a part of a brand-new initiative to inspire young farmers to plan for things like succession planning. William, who is the Duke of Cornwall, is the landlord of the diocese’s farmers.

His new patronage strengthens the duchy’s rural mental health strategy, which was launched in 2023 and aims to make it the nation’s top provider of mental health care to all of its residents.
