Prince William and Kate Middleton reconnected after a brief break, and the two made their commitment clear with a sincere holiday vow.
Prince William and Princess Kate have been married for 14 years, and thousands of people watched their fairytale wedding in Westminster Abbey in the spring of 2011 . However, the ending of their romantic relationship was almost nonexistent.
The two former university sweethearts, who first fell in love while attending St. Andrew’s, split up briefly in April 2007 after moving places as young graduates.
William was putting himself in the army, while Fashionable Kate, who is now one of the most influential style icons of the modern era, was employed by Jigsaw in London. The future heir to the throne began having doubts and ended the union in a heartbreaking 30-minute phone call as the pressures to get married reached fever.
Kate was granted a week’s worth of compassionate leave from work while William hit the town with friends, reportedly declaring “I’m free”! during a boozy nighttime party at the Mahiki club in Mayfair.
This is according to Robert Jobson’s book Catherine, The Princess of Wales: The Biography, which details how, having nursed her broken heart, the future queen responded by also making sure to have plenty of fun of her own, stepping out on the town accompanied by sister Pippa.
By the time William was back in his army barracks, Kate was still enjoying living alone, with Sir Henry Ropner, the shipping heir, catching the eye of other interested bachelors.
William, who was then 24 years old, reportedly began to realize that letting Kate go might have been a mistake. At a party Sam Waley-Cohen’s mutual friend’s throwing party in June 2007, they were spotted talking for hours. William, who reportedly didn’t want to miss his second chance, invited Kate to a party at his Dorset barracks, where the cheeky theme was “Freakin’ Naughty.” As they say, history is the rest.
The pair needed time to rekindle their relationship and rekindle it, like many couples who have already taken a break before and after them. And they made a somber pact while on vacation together in Desroches, a dreamy island in the Seychelles, in August 2007.
With a population of only 50 and three miles long, the paradise island was the ideal escape, according to Royal correspondent Katie Nicholl’s book The Making of a Royal Romance.
Before moving forward, the twentysomethings who had booked into the five-star resort under the names Martin and Rosemary Middleton spent their days kayaking and snorkeling.
The island’s tranquility made for a young man who had an inherent fear of the future, according to author Katie, “But this was not easy for William, but the island’s tranquil backdrop was as good a place to discuss it as any.”
The author continued, adding that “William knew he would lose Kate if he could not give her any kind of guarantee,” adding that “William assured Kate she was the one.”
A member of their inner circle remarked, “They didn’t agree to get married there, and then what they made was a pact.”
William admitted to Kate that he was not married when he said, “but she was right.” She agreed to wait for him after he promised her his commitment and said he wouldn’t let her down.
The royal couple, who have a lot of parenting responsibilities as Prince and Princess of Wales, appear to have kept their word about the promise they made a long time ago.
