After his side’s Scottish Premiership defeat at Dundee United on Saturday, Aberdeen’s Jack MacKenzie was slammed by one of his own fans, Police Scotland are now looking into the incident.

While United supporters were cheering their side’s victory over Aberdeen in fourth place, the piece of plastic was hurled onto the pitch from the upper deck of the Fair Play Stand, where unused substitute MacKenzie was standing.

Jimmy Thelin, manager, and Aberdeen confirmed that the 24-year-old had “a serious facial injury” and is “ok.”

Police Scotland said no arrests had been made or suspects had been identified in the wake of the incident and that anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage should get in touch with them. However, on Sunday, Police Scotland confirmed that no arrests had been made or suspects had been identified.

Superintendent Ray Birnie, the match’s commander, described the incident as “a mindless act” in a statement on Saturday.

What are the clubs’ remark?

Aberdeen released a statement in which they described themselves as “dismayed and outraged” after Thelin called the fan’s actions as “unacceptable.”

The club claimed to be aware that the fan housing area where the seat was thrown “for sure” was.

In addition, they pleaded with any fans with information to get in touch with the club and pledged to take “the strongest possible action” if a culprit is found guilty.

After objects were directed at United manager Jim Goodwin, who was previously in charge of Pittodrie, at the previous meeting at Tannadice, the number of Aberdeen supporters at the meeting was already limited.

Although United have yet to comment on the incident, Goodwin, who was also targeted in a game last season, referred to the scene as “a disgrace.”

Because we’ve previously had previous encounters with Aberdeen supporters, he said, “I deliberately took myself off the pitch as quickly as I could.”

“I’m very disappointed to learn that Jack’s supporters have thrown an object at him.” It’s a total disgrace that he is currently receiving stitches inside.

How about the authorities, exactly?

The SPFL criticized the “moronic behavior” and warned that “footballing sanctions” and “police action” are likely to follow.

One of the most exciting games of the season has been ruined by such foolish behavior, according to a league statement. “It’s incredibly disappointing and frustrating.”
