According to the Nigeria Police Force, some people have made attempts to hijack the peaceful protest against the poor living conditions by retired police officers in some places.
On Monday, a post with this information appeared on the Nigeria Police Force’s X handle.
Although it did not name the individuals, it claimed that during the peaceful demonstration there were attempts to “push for confrontation and disorder” rather than engage in dialogue.

“The peaceful nature of the demonstration is in jeopardized because some individuals have attempted to hijack the event with scheming.” These factors are preventing retirees from engaging in dialogue and instead promoting conflict and disorder.
The Nigeria Police Force urges all legitimate stakeholders to continue to be calm, upholding the law, and accepting of the newly started peaceful resolution process. The IGP continues to work with them in a constructive way and with dignity and respect, according to the statement.

IGP to meet retired people
However, the police claimed Kayode Egbetokun, the police inspector-general, was ready to meet the retired police officers.
According to the statement, the Federal Capital Territory’s Commissioner of Police met with the protesters and made arrangements for them to meet with the IGP.

In a peaceful protest on Monday, some retired police officers peacefully took to the streets of Abuja and Taraba State to raise concerns about the state of the elderly and serving Nigerian police forces.
Omoyele Sowore, the Revolution Now Movement’s convener, joined the retirees in urging urgent action from the Federal Government.
The protesters expressed dissatisfaction with years of neglect, non-payment of pensions, and subpar treatment of officers who had diligently served the country.
