In separate coordinated operations along Benin-Lagos and Benin-Akure roads, the Edo State Police Command claims to have rescued sixteen kidnap victims.
This is in line with a statement from Joel Yamu, the command’s spokesman, who claimed the operations were coordinated with local hunters and vigilantes in the area.
“Six victims were rescued along the Benin–Akure Road, one of whom received a gunshot wound during the attack, was saved from the scene by public-spirited individuals, and is currently receiving treatment,” according to the report. Along the Benin–Lagos Road, three more victims were safely rescued, too, according to the statement’s description.

In concert with tactical teams, vigilantes, and local hunters, the Iguobazuwa Division and Ekiadolor Division conducted extensive bush-combing operations to pursue the hoodlums and secure the release of the victims.
According to him, the Benin–Akure axis operation was led by the Edo State Police Commissioner, Monday Agbonika.
The Command deployed advanced technical support, including drones, to improve precision and coordination during the rescue operations.
Agbonika praised the operatives and the crucial role that vigilantes and neighborhood hunters played in the operations.
He noted that violent crime is still effectively fought against by the combination of formal law enforcement and community structures.
The commander was assured that it would hold off until the perpetrators had been apprehended and the remaining victims had been rescued.
