A man who was detained after a car struck football fans during Liverpool’s Premier League victory parade has been given additional time to question him.

A total of 79 casualties were struck by the Ford Galaxy on Water Street in the city center on Monday, shortly after 18:00 BST, and seven are still in hospital.

A 53-year-old West Derby man was also detained on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs, according to Merseyside Police, who had given him more time to speak with the officer.

After reporting that 65 people were hurt at a news conference on Tuesday, police announced that they had spoken to 14 more of the injured.

Police forces can keep a suspect in custody for 24 hours without being charged under the laws that govern suspect detention, and a senior officer with at least the superintendent rank can authorize an initial 12-hour extension.

After that, a magistrate’s court may request further 12-hour extensions, up to 96 hours, or 14 days, if the offence involves terrorism.

Merseyside Police urged people to refrain from making speculation and reiterated that West Derby resident 53-year-old was the only suspect in the area’s West Liverpool.

Just chaos, really?

Daniel Eveson, a survivor from Telford, Shropshire, claimed his partner was dragged under the car’s wheels and that his son’s pram was thrown down the street.

He told BBC Radio Shropshire, “I saw a gentleman on the bonnet and the rest was chaos.”

He claimed that it was difficult because he had no idea where anyone was or what to do.

“I saw the car getting smashed because a lot of people were angry.”

Mr. Eveson returned to his son in search of his partner after finding him unharmed and putting him in a restaurant.

While his partner was in the hospital and waited to find out if their baby could return home, he claimed, their baby was now “good as gold.”

On Thursday, Det Supt. Rachel Wilson stated, “I’m pleased to report that the number of hospital patients is declining as they continue to recover from the terrible incident.

We continue to assist those who are still receiving medical attention, and we are looking into more injuries as part of our ongoing investigations.

She claimed that detectives were “making significant progress” in fully establishing the circumstances that led to what transpired.

Prior to the incident, officers are conducting a trawl of CCTV searches throughout the city to track down the Ford Galaxy’s movements.

As a reminder of the events that took place, some flowers and cards with well wishes were left.
