Police Arrest Two Sisters, Couple In Abuja Over Fake Kidnap Plot

Two sisters and a couple have been detained by federal authorities in the nation’s capital for pretending to be abducted.

Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for FCT Police Command, made this known in a statement on Tuesday.

She claimed that the sisters conspired with two other people to kidnap their parents and demanded $5 million as a ransom.

One Mr. Innocent, a resident of Jikwoyi Phase II, reported to the Jikwoyi Police Division on July 30 that his 16-year-old daughter, Miss LeadWay Innocent, had left home on July 18th, 2025 to take an examination at the government secondary school in Karu, Abuja, and had not returned, according to the statement.

Unknown individuals subsequently rang him and demanded a ransom for her release.

The Jikwoyi Division Divisional Police Officer (DPO) conducted a covert investigation right away after receiving the report.

The complainant’s phone number was found to be located at a residence in Jikwoyi Phase II, according to coordinated intelligence gathering and digital tracking.

Operatives then drove to the location where they discovered Miss LeadWay innocent, who was a member of one woman, Mrs. Tina Mayowa, the wife of Mr. Mayowa Adedeji.

No signs of distress were seen between the two people, who were seen eating and conversing freely.

“Miss Joy Innocent, the alleged victim’s elder sister, and her boyfriend, Mr. Mayowa Adedeji, were arrested as a result of subsequent investigations,” according to the report.

According to Adeh, Joy and her boyfriend, who is legally married to Mrs. Tina Mayowa, planned to kidnap her younger sister LeadWay Innocent in an effort to defraud their father of $5 million, according to the Command’s findings.

She claimed that LeadWay Innocent was a proactive participant in the investigation as well as aware of the plan.

While Joy remained at home and feigned ignorance, watching her parents’ agony and emotional distress as they struggled to raise money for the alleged ransom, the police claimed that she willingly stayed with the suspects throughout the course of her alleged abduction.

“All four suspects have voluntarily confessed to the crime and are currently being detained by the police.” When the investigation is finished, they will be in court.

This betrayal and manipulation, especially one committed within the family, is a strong condemnation from the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Ajao Saka Adewale.
