Nigeria’s largest oil-producing state is Rivers.

During a night patrol, security personnel reportedly witnessed the incident, which occurred near the Kpor and Bodo communities, and called the pipeline’s operator, Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).

According to Iringe-Iroko, the latter established the necessary safety measures, including shutting down the affected pipeline.

“The situation is now under control, and there is no longer a threat to the environment as a result of quick intervention.”

As the fire rushed into the mangrove, thick black smoke was captured in the explosion’s video.

Later, some area residents were spotted trying to keep an eye on the area around the scene of the incident.

Details of the incident are still a mystery, according to the Minister of Regional Affairs, Abubakar Momoh, who had earlier provided conflicting information.

On Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics, the minister said, “We haven’t been able to get clear details as to what caused that very explosion. But investigations are taking place.”

He did, however, declare that “a clear picture” of the incident would be made “in due time.”
