Police Arrest Suspects For Theft, Robbery, Thuggery In Niger State

Numerous suspects have been arrested for theft, robbery, thuggery, and drug-related offenses, which is a significant accomplishment for the Niger State Police Command’s ongoing fight against crime and criminality in the Minna metropolis.

One Aliyu Mohammed of Chanchaga was detained by police operatives affiliated to the command, Wasiu Abiodun, for allegedly stealing a lister engine, a drum, and other items valued at more than one million naira from a shop he was near a mosque, according to the command’s spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun.

Abiodun alleged that the suspect confessed during questioning and that he had identified Sabon-Titi’s Ibrahim Mu’azu as the person who purchased the stolen goods in a statement he issued on Tuesday.

Both suspects were indicted in court after the lister engine was recovered.
Similar to this, Idris Yahaya, 36, of Darulsalam, Bosso, was detained on January 12, 2026 after allegedly robbering a student of an Infinix mobile phone valued at more than $17,000. According to reports, the suspect allegedly carried the victim into a confined area of the Bosso Estate while impersonating a soldier.

After the victim raised alarm, he was apprehended by community members, and he has since been charged with a charge in court.

Following the attack on a vigilante operative in Kpakungu on December 24, 2025, four suspects were detained for criminal conspiracy, grievous assault, and thuggery.

The suspects allegedly threatened the victim by stopping the suspects from arresting their associates while disarming her with a locally produced gun and a cutlass.

Usman Mohammed, Shuaibu Shehu, Husseini Umar, and Abdullahi Mohammed, all Kpakungu residents, are among those detained. While one additional suspect is currently at large, investigations are continuing to find dangerous weapons and suspected cannabis.

The State Criminal Investigation Department’s Anti-Tuggery Unit has received the case.

In addition, ten additional suspects were arrested in Minna during the months of December 23 and December 27, 2025, from areas like Alagbado, Tudun-Natsira, Angwan-Daji, Abdulsalam Quarters, and New Market.

Cutlasses and suspected cannabis are among the items recovered. The suspects have been taken to court in total.

Further searches on January 17 and 18 2026 led to the arrest of a number of other suspects in the areas of Khartoum, Kasuwan-Gwari, Sabon-Gari, and Abdulsalam for drug trafficking and illegal possession. Knives, suspected cannabis, illegal substances, and a local-made dane gun are among the items that have been recovered.
