Eight alleged members of an armed robbery syndicate are being held in custody, according to the Ogun State Police Command, who are responsible for the state’s Papalanto–Ilaro and Owode–Idiroko axis of violent attacks and the state’s trailer truck thief.
Oluseyi Babaseyi, the police public relations officer in Abeokuta, the state capital, confirmed the feat in a statement.
In a coordinated effort based on intelligence, the command said it recovered a hijacked trailer truck, 900 bags of cement, and a locally produced single-barrelled pistol.
The suspects were interrogated after moving the trailer truck, a spokesman for the command claiming that the stolen cement had been transported to a warehouse where it had been tracked and then recovered first by operatives.
Detectives “successfully identified and penetrated the syndicate” through ongoing intelligence gathering, covert surveillance, and crime pattern analysis, he claimed.
Eight important gang members were detained as a result of this operation. Mogaji Sodiq (M) a.k.a. Olaifa Sunday (M), Adebowale Lekan (M), Ajah Peter (M), Ganiyu Razaq (M), Odeleye Ayoola (M), Bello Akeem (M), and Olafah Lekan (M). Their locally produced single-barrelled pistol was recovered following subsequent operations. Investigations revealed that the syndicate had engaged in previous criminal activity, and ongoing investigations have revealed a pattern of organized theft aimed at commercial supply chains.
As further investigations “disassemble their wider criminal network and identify accomplices and logistics channels,” the statement stated that intelligence is currently being exploited to track, locate, and apprehend other fleeing members.
“Upon the conclusion of the investigations, the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.”
