Mauricio Pochettino, the ex-Manchester United boss, claims he wants to play for the club in North London again in the future.

Between 2014 and 2019, the 53-year-old served as manager of Spurs, helping the team to place second in the 2016-17 Premier League, 2015 EFL Cup final, and 2019 Champions League final.

Before being appointed United States coach in September, he was fired in November 2019 after running Paris St-Germain and Chelsea.

The Argentine told Sky Sports, “I always remember when I left the club that I promised to return to Tottenham one day.”

I’m in the USA, so I won’t discuss that right away, but what I said left me with a feeling of nostalgia after six or five years. Yes, I’d like to return in a few days.

Pochettino claims that despite being fired by the chairman of Spurs, he still maintains a “very good relationship” with Daniel Levy.

It’s true that the nearly six years we lived together were difficult because of all the ups and downs and emotional experiences, he continued.

Prior to joining Chelsea in May, Pochettino and the club agreed to terms that would allow them to leave after one season, helping them reach the EFL Cup final, the FA Cup semi-final, and sixth place in the Premier League.

He said, “I always stop and look at different things when something doesn’t work, and I think it was the best choice for both sides.”

“I believe both sides were happy to split, and they were then open to seeing various options come up,” he said.

Prior to Thomas Tuchel’s appointment last fall, Pochettino had ties to the England job after leaving Stamford Bridge.

The former defender claims that England needed to prepare for the 2026 World Cup, but that the opportunity to lead the country’s co-hosts was too appealing.

The timings are sometimes off, but it’s a privilege to head coach the England national team; however, when you can be present, the option disappears, he said.

After working in clubs for many years, being the national coach of the USA with the World Cup in 2026, it was a great opportunity for a coaching staff like us to challenge ourselves.
