Piers Morgan’s public brawl with Jeremy Clarkson at the 2004 Press Awards ended in him with a scar on his forehead, and now he can reveal it.
The long running feud between Piers Morgan and Jeremy Clarkson remains one of the most legendary fall-outs within the world of showbiz, especially as it ended up in a physical brawl at the Press Awards in 2004. And now for the first time, Piers, 60, has lifted the lid on his altercation with the former Top Gear host that left him with a permanent reminder on his forehead.
The two presenters sworn enemies for 10 years, constantly throwing shade at one another and fists at one stage. Jeremy, 65, punched Piers in the head at the Press Awards after the ex Mirror editor published photos of him “in a compromising position with someone who wasn’t the then Mrs Clarkson”, according to Piers.
On the final Concorde flight a year later, Jeremy even tipped a glass of water in Piers’ lap. As we walked down the aircraft steps, I said to the journalists, “Look, the idiot has wet himself,” Jeremy said to the press at the time.
Now, Piers has opened up about how he buried the hatchet with Jeremy. He told the The Times that he used to criticise England cricketers and Arsenal footballers all the time in “intemperate, passionate” outbursts but since speaking to some of them, heard how upset they were.
“But probably the catalyst for my new evolved ability to settle scores, rather than wage feuds, was actually Jeremy Clarkson,” he added.
He then went on to explain how they ended their physical conflict, which left Piers and Jeremy both with battle wounds. While Jeremy broke his finger, Piers eventually left with a scar on his forehead.
We got into a fight for ten years, according to Piers, adding, “It all started like the Wild West.” Terrible neglect He then texted me. Morgan . Clarkson is present. But we basically agreed that we wouldn’t be our best friends, but we sort of contended not to punch one another.
Their legendary breakup occurred when Piers, who was editing the Mirror at the time, discovered and published images of Jeremy with a different woman, not his wife.
The former journalist later told Jeremy to stop reading the photos before pleading with Piers to stop publishing them in 2002, leaving Jeremy fuming. And as a result, both sides engaged in verbal abuse for years.
On the final ever commercial Concorde flight, the pair were seated next to each other when Jeremy felt uncontrollable and poured water all over Piers.
Speaking about the incident on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Jeremy admitted: “I was on its last commercial flight they sat me next to the lavatory, or Piers Morgan as you know him. I poured a glass of water over his crotch, so when he got off, it looked like he’d wet himself.”
It’s thought that Piers said, “My three-year-old hits me harder than that,” in an attempt to demonize Jeremy following their public fist fight.
