Piastri beats Norris at F1 Miami GP to extend championship lead

With victory at the Miami Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri continued their dominant Formula One campaign with a hat-trick of victories with a one-two victory.

Lando Norris, a British teammate, and George Russell of Mercedes, a Mercedes driver, came in third but 37.6 seconds ahead.

After winning in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, Piastri won his third race in a row on Sunday, his fourth of the previous six this season.

Max Verstappen, a four-time world champion, finished in fourth place, Alex Albon, a 19-year-old Williams, and Kimi Antonelli, a Mercedes, a sixth-place finisher.

“I knew I had a good pace advantage from the beginning, and I avoided Max in turn one,” Piastri said. “The car was fantastic today,” he said.

There are some things to work on because of the difficult stint I had a little trouble with. I’m eager to continue learning, but I’m thrilled to be leading Miami.

We were the slowest team in this room two years ago, and I believe we were lapped twice. We just won by 35 seconds in this case,” he continued.

Verstappen took the inside line on lap 14, but Piastri, who was fourth overall, was too late to stop and drove the car.

The Dutchman, a two-time champion at Miami, was told by his team radio, “Brakes man, honestly, useless,” and the Red Bull driver was unable to regain control of the lead once more.

Verstappen was nowhere to be found, but Norris had already taken the lead by lap 17 when Piastri opened up a 9-second lead.

The team did a fantastic job, so I can’t fault them, said Norris, “but it’s never the best feeling] to be second.”

It’s a good feeling because we were driving up the road. Oscar handled the situation well, and Max always put up a strong fight, so it is. He said, “I paid the price for not doing a good enough job today, but I’m still happy to be second.”

Russell was pleased to be on the podium despite finishing second to his teammate Antonelli in the sprint race despite experiencing some issues.

“Really happy to receive P3, given that I personally struggled this weekend. He said, “Well done, McLaren, they were just too far down the road.”

Ferrari had yet another disappointing day, with Lewis Hamilton a distant second and Charles Leclerc seventh.

In his first season with the Italian team, Hamilton frequently expressed frustration with the race’s tactics, particularly after being told to let Leclerc pass him.

After making an aggressive overtaking attempt in the final corner, Carlos Sainz, the Williams driver, and his stewardship were subjected to a steward investigation.
