Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, who made her debut in 1983’s Surprise Party, looked completely different in an unearthed photo from her 1983 film debut.

The hit comedy-drama Emily in Paris is back on Netflix for its fifth season, introducing a slew of new characters while welcoming back familiar faces, including the formidable Sylvie Grateau, played by Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu.

Sylvie, Emily Cooper’s (Lily Collins) tough-as-nails boss and owner of Agence Grateau, a luxury marketing agency in Paris, is renowned for her straight-talking approach and her command over men.

Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, the daughter of actor Philippe Leroy and model Françoise Laurent, has had a distinguished and long career in the field.

In the 1983 comedy-drama Surprise Party, Leroy-Beaulieu and co-star Christian Vadim posed in a newly discovered photo, both of whom have the same elegance and beauty as she does now, more than 40 years later. She was nominated for the César Award for Most Promising Actress for her performance in the 1985 comedy Three Men and a Cradle.

Leroy-Beaulieu spent time in Italy when her father worked in the neighborhood’s film industry. She relocated to Paris when she was 16 years old to pursue drama studies.

She remained unwavering in her ambition despite her parents’ attempts to stop her from pursuing an acting career. She won her first significant role on screen in Three Men and a Cradle in 1985.

She later appeared in a number of period dramas before reprising the role in the late 1980s French film Natalia as the result of the comedy’s success.

She portrayed Catherine Barneville in the television comedy series Call My Agent! and portrayed by Agathe Koltès as one of the stand-outs in the detective series.

Her arresting appearance in later years was undoubtedly well-known, as she was revealed as the French brand ambassador for L’Oréal Paris’ Age Perfect Collagen Expert skincare range in April 2025.

She and her partner, Richard Bean, have a daughter called Tas with their private life.

The actress admitted to “didn’t expect ageing to be so nice” in a conversation with Harper’s Bazaar, adding, “Ageing is great. simply being at ease with things.
