The former teen star of the 2003 live-action version of Peter Pan, Jeremy Sumpter, who you may have fallen in love with, will make his big screen debut in 20 years, along with none other than Wendy Darling, who Rachel Hurd-Wood aka plays her.
When Peter and Wendy appeared in Universal’s 2003 hit as young love interests, the pair were 14 and 13 respectively. They are all set to return in a romantic comedy that also marks Sumpter’s directorial debut.
The movie is based on a true event and follows a “dedicated horse enthusiast” played by Hurd-Wood and the unsuccessful stock market trader who use their savings to pursue a dream in Mexico.
The characters embark on a journey that they are determined will improve their lives by calling Strawberry Roan and setting out to establish a horse sanctuary in Mexico. However, their love and drive conflict, and they both come to terms with the fact that the reward they want for their future isn’t “the trust, courage, and connection they rediscover along the way,” Deadline claims.
Sumpter expressed his excitement about his “first feature as a director,” but also how “the fact that I get to share it with Rachel makes it even more special.”
He claimed on Deadline: “Reuniting after all these years feels like a homecoming of sorts because we forged such a strong bond with Peter Pan.” Making things again with someone who played a significant role in my early life brings a profoundly full circle. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to tell a story together, but I’m also completely overwhelmed.
