Alex Pereira has refuted claims made by Magomed Ankalaev’s camp that he was “greasing” during their UFC 313 fight.
In March, Ankalaev won the UFC light-heavyweight title, but Pereira’s coach claimed Pereira had applied oil to his body to make it harder for him to catch him.
In their fight, Pereira, 37, successfully defended every takedown attempt by Ankalaev.
Pereira stated on the Ariel Helwani show, “Absolutely did not put anything on my body.”
“Sounds to me like he’s trying to make an excuse to justify the fact that he trained a man to take me down, but the man stuffed himself on 12 takedowns.
You make up excuses and make up excuses, you go on. If we also put Vaseline on the mat, should you ask the coach?
Is Ankalaev a victim of his own demise? because he was taken down.
Pereira’s five-fight winning streak, which included two titles in two weight classes, was ended by Ankalaev’s defeat in the UFC, which came just after Pereira’s second defeat.
Pereira states that he anticipates facing Ankalaev in a rematch next.
Ankalaev, 32, claimed on social media that the rematch had already been scheduled for August.
Although “there is no contract agreement,” Pereira said, “August is a good date.”
I’m signing as soon as the contract is signed.
