As Dame Patricia Routledge’s funeral is being held at Chichester Cathedral, her life is being celebrated.
A public funeral service, which started at 1pm, will honor the Hyacinth Bucket star, who passed away in October at the age of 96. Public access to the star’s service is also available via a live-stream.
The Patricia Routledge Foundation, which is involved in supporting a wide range of charitable causes, is being helped by the people who organized the funeral, who requested no flowers and instead asked for donations in Patricia’s memory.
Before a second reading, the choir performs.
A reading is provided by Matthew Sims.
Actor Peter Bourke interprets the scene.
Opening address
The priest leading the service’s opening address read, “Welcome everyone to the cathedral, this afternoon as we come together for the funeral of our dear friend Dame Catherine Patricia Routledge,” before the service’s opening hymn. We are here to thank Patricia for her long life and her numerous accomplishments, most notably on screen and on stage, but also in more secret ways for her care and concern for family and friends, her commitment to many causes, and her support and gave life to many people. In this cathedral church, where she spent many years worshiping, we also pray for her and offer our thanks for God’s merciful keeping in the hope of the resurrection.
For the first time, we can see Dame Patricia’s coffin.
On a wooden stand at the front of the cathedral, Dame Patricia’s funeral is displayed.
A purple cushion can be seen resting on top of a light wood coffin with a bouquet of yellow and white flowers on top.
The service begins.

tributes to the famous
Online and on social media, tributes to the actress flooded in after learning of her passing.
One of the first to pay tribute to her former co-star, Lisa Riley, who plays Mandy Dingle, was a member of Emmerdale. She wrote, “REST IN PEACE, Dear Dame Pat, you taught me so much when we worked together, and I was only 14 years old, playing your little novice super sleuth troublemaker,” in a lengthy post.
“I still tell the tales of those chilly filming days in Haslingden, Lancashire. You’ve made the nation laugh all over again thanks to your funny timing over the years. What a career you have had.
Laura Norton, who plays Kerry Wyatt, called Patricia “genius,” while Natalie Ann Jamieson, who also starred in Emmerdale, added: “Very said, truly top of her game, genius actress,” which is contrary to what Laura Norton has said.
The sitcom’s official fan podcast, “Dame Patricia Routledge, 1929 – 2025,” was hosted by William Hanson. Moving on to the sky’s candlelit dinner. I appreciate everything. The endings of Keeping Up Appearances by Hyacinth seem appropriate.
