Panthers rout Oilers to capture second NHL Stanley Cup in a row

The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Florida Panthers 5-1 to win the NHL finals, which was Sam Reinhart’s four-goal effort that gave them their second straight Stanley Cup win.

The Panthers won the best-of-seven series 4-2, and Florida goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 28 shots on Tuesday.

Brad Marchand of Florida called it “unbelievable.” You can’t really describe the feeling, they say. Words cannot adequately express how amazing it feels. Such a fantastic group.

The Panthers won back-to-back championships after taking their first title last year, making them the first NHL team since Tampa Bay in 2020-2021.

After wasting a 3-0 series lead, Florida wasted a seven-game lead over Edmonton before winning the Stanley Cup again with a dominant performance in the final two games.

It’s “an amazing feeling,” Bobrovsky said. The group is “they are amazing. I have a great opportunity to play for them. It’s amazing to double win that trophy, and it’s a dream come true.

A team hasn’t defeated the same opponent twice in the finals since 1977 and 1978, which is the only time they have won.

The Oilers haven’t won the Cup since 1990, which they are seeking to win overall.

Since 1993’s Montreal win, no Canadian team has ever captured the Stanley Cup.
