As he is laid to rest today, Ozzy Osbourne will make his final journey through his beloved Birmingham. As a hero’s send off, the Black Sabbath icon’s funeral will take place in his hometown.

His private funeral took place just over a week after his death on Tuesday, at the age of 76, and he passed away. A special procession will be taking down Broad Street in the city in order to give fans one last chance to pay their respects to the legendary rock star.

Black Sabbath bridge and bench, where floral tributes to the music icon have been laid out, will pass by the procession. The special procession will include the family, who will be joined by Bostin’ Brass, a live brass band.

Beginning at noon, the procession will start, with traffic on Broad Street being blocked at 7am. The council is assisting with the road closure while Ozzy’s family will bear the costs.

In recent years, Ozzy’s Parkinson’s diagnosis led to him feeling “desperate to come home,” and he managed to return to England before passing away. The moving statement read, “Birmingham, England July 22, 2025,” revealing Ozzy’s final destination of rest was in England.

incredible gift made to Birmingham by Sharon Osbourne

Sharon, Ozzy’s dearly beloved wife, has made a wonderful gesture to Birmingham in the lead up to his funeral.

The Black Sabbath rocker spent his final days with his family in Birmingham, where he was reunited with his family for his encore performance at his hometown of Villa Park. A special procession will take place today at the Black Sabbath bench and bridge along Broad Street.

Sharon has reportedly covered all of the costs and security for the procession. Councillor Zafar Iqbal, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, stated that “Ozzy was more than just a music legend; he was also a native of Birmingham.”

It was important to the city that we supported a fitting, dignified tribute ahead of a private family funeral, as he recently received the Freedom of the City and made his celebratory appearance at the Back to the Beginning concert earlier this month. We are aware of the significance for his fans by this moment.

He continued, “We’re proud to host it here with his loving family in the place where it all began, and we’re grateful that they generously offered to pay to make this happen and support the city in bid him farewell.”
