Ozzy Osbourne, the 76-year-old frontman of Black Sabbath, made it clear he didn’t want his funeral to be a “mope-fest” and that he had some requests for his final send-off.
The late Ozzy Osbourne made his funeral wishes very clear years before he died – warning his loved ones he “definitely don’t want a f**king happy song” played during any celebration of his life.
The Black Sabbath frontman’s death at the age of 76 was announced on Monday night – just weeks on from the Brummie reuniting with his former bandmates for a farewell gig in their hometown.
Although Ozzy’s funeral plans haven’t been disclosed, the War Pigs star talked about his wishes several times throughout the year. In 2011, the father-of-six asserted that he wanted a service to be more of a celebration of his life than a depressing spectacle.

Ozzy told The Times, “There won’t be any harping on the bad times.” It’s important to remember that many people in this country, especially rock stars like me, experience only poverty their entire lives, making most of us in this country incredibly fortunate. I don’t want my funeral to be depressing; I want it to be a moment to say “thanks” because of this.
The singer, known for his humour, also stated he didn’t want his funeral to be a “mope-fest” and admitted he wasn’t fussed about what music played during his final goodbye. “I honestly don’t care what they play at my funeral; they can put on a medley of Justin Bieber, Susan Boyle and We Are the Diddymen if it makes ’em happy,” Ozzy joked.
Ozzy admitted in another interview that he did actually have some requested, and that the Beatles fan would like the band A Day In The Life to play at his funeral.
“I really need a few more years to consider this,” Sgt. Ozzy compared Revolver to Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band to NME. I never play that album because I’m embarrassed about it, and I absolutely don’t want my f**king greatest hits album. I’m dead, so I definitely don’t want a f**king happy song.
A statement from Ozzy’s family telling fans: “We have to announce that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning was announced by his loved ones. He was surrounded by love and his family. At this time, we ask that everyone respects our family’s privacy.
Ozzy performed his final set from a large black throne earlier this month at a Black Sabbath reunion in Birmingham, where thousands of heavy metal fans were gathered to pay their respects.
The Back to the Beginning concert lineup featured only Ozzy and his fellow original Black Sabbath members, Tony Iommi, Terence “Geezer” Butler, and Bill Ward.
The dad-of-six’s death has sparked a wave of tributes from across the world. Sir Elton John has said Ozzy Osbourne was a “huge trailblazer” who “secured his place in the pantheon of rock gods”.
He joined Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and other famous faces in paying tribute to the Black Sabbath singer after his death on Tuesday. Sir Elton posted on Instagram: “So sad to hear the news of Ozzy Osbourne passing away.
A true legend, and he was a dear friend and a great trailblazer who made his name in the pantheon of rock gods. One of the funniest people I’ve ever met was also him. He will be sorely missed. I extend my love and condolences to Sharon and the family. “Elton xx”
Singer Yungblud, who performed Black Sabbath’s Changes at the farewell concert for Back To The Beginning, described Ozzy as “the greatest of all time” and said he was “heartbroken” by the news.
He wrote in a social media post, “I didn’t think you would leave as soon the last time we met because you were so full of life and your laughter filled the room.”
