The Government House’s complete reconstruction project, which is being funded by the Oyo State Executive Council, is costing “an embarrassment and unbefitting” in the sum of $ 63.4 billion.
Dotun Oyelade, the commissioner for information, made the disclosure in a statement released on Tuesday, noting that the project is a part of Oyo State’s preparations for its 50th anniversary celebrations scheduled for the following year.
“The Governor and his deputy have resided in their private residences for the past six years because of how awfully squat their official quarters have been. According to Oyelade, the reconstruction will leave a respectable legacy for the Seyi Makinde administration.
The banquet hall’s completion, in his opinion, is expected before the celebration’s golden jubilee, as the project’s completion signals a revival of the state’s image and infrastructure.
Additionally, the Council approved a $11.3 million grant for the hiring of professional gardeners to maintain the Government House’s green spaces and surroundings.

With the purchase and installation of Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) worth $14.9 billion, the state is moving to upgrade the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport to international standards. Particularly in bad weather, the system will aid in smooth landings of aircraft.
The Federal Government had previously purchased ILS equipment, but it was damaged. Within six months, the state government will start installing a new one, Oyelade explained.
The runway, apron, taxiway, and blast pads are all under construction, and the airport was shut down in March 2025 after being flagged off in September 2024.
Oyelade noted that federal aviation agencies are approving these projects by the end of the year, while the international terminal is slated to be finished by June 2026.
The Council also approved the first installment payment for the service agreement on the Ijaiye International Agro-Food Market in an effort to encourage economic growth.
The African Development Bank (AfDB) gave the $ 2 million project a certificate of no objection from the Semmaris, which was being carried out in partnership with the Paris-based Semmaris.
The Council also approved a 130 million take-off grant for the Oyo State New Towns and Cities Development Authority, which was established to ease structural congested urban areas and stop the development of slums.
