Inigo Martinez, a Barcelona defender, was declared ineligible to play against them on Thursday, according to an appeal from Osasuna to the Royal Spanish Football Federation.

Due to a knee injury, Martinez did not play for Spain during the most recent international break.

A player must have the national FA’s approval before playing for his club within five days if they haven’t joined their country on a call-up.

The following day and four days after Spain’s Nations League game with the Netherlands, Barca rearranged their 3-0 victory over Osasuna in La Liga, which was played on March 8 after club doctor Carles Minarro Garcia’s death.

Martinez played the full 90 minutes for Osasuna.

According to a club statement, “Club Atletico Osasuna believes that Inigo Martinez, who was taken off of the Spanish national team due to a medical leave, was not permitted to play in yesterday’s game in accordance with Fifa rules.”

In light of this, the Navarrese club has decided to appeal for improper fielding in order to protect his rights, the fairness of the competition, and the equality of all participants.
