One Kidnapper Killed As Police Rescue 23 Victims In Niger, Enugu

In its efforts to combat crimes in some areas of the nation, police have rescued 23 victims in the states of Niger and Enugu.

Muyiwa Adejobi, a spokesman for the forces, made this known in a statement released on Friday.

He claimed that when kidnappers attacked the villages of Hayin-Dogo and Dangunu in Sarkin-Pawa, Munya Local Government Area of Niger State, one Usman Daina and four others were abducted, police immediately took action.

One victim, Usman Daina, and four others were among the five victims who were abducted during the course of the operation.

The Police and other security personnel made more aggressive efforts to rescue the last two victims, which ended up happening on May 22nd, 2025, after Usman was released after two days. Deborah Daina, Gambo Amos, Cyprus Titus, and Satti Iko, the other four victims, according to the statement, were found safe and with their families.

Following the abduction of commuters along Olo-Umulokpa Road, police operatives affiliated with the Enugu State Command organized an operation in the Uvuru-Ukpata forest in Uzo-Uwani LGA.

“The operatives engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle with them as they approached the trail and triumphantly saved 9 kidnapped victims. Two men who had been abducted on May 16, 2025 at the Ezimo community had previously been rescued in a forest in Amalla-Egazi. According to the police, the rescued victims have been reunited with their families.

On the way to the Enugu-Kogi border, police officers affiliated with the Enugu State Command stormed a forest on May 23rd, 2025, in collaboration with local security forces as they sought a gang of kidnappers. A gunfight broke out during the operation, in which one of the kidnappers was neutralized and others escaped with various gunshot wounds. In the process, eight abducted victims were unharmed. The search for the suspects who are fleeing is still ongoing.

The police inspector-general, Kayode Egbetokun, on his part, commended the officers’ valiant actions and dedication.

He applauded the assistance of neighborhood security forces and the general public in our various operations across the nation, which has been so important to the successes in the fight against crime and criminality in our beloved nation.
