After a truck reportedly failed to brake and crashed into the busy Isheri Market in the OPIC bus stop along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Wednesday morning, one person has been confirmed dead, others injured, and properties destroyed.
A motorcyclist who witnessed the incident claimed the truck’s driver lost control as it approached the OPIC area as a result of a broken brake.
A container coming from Lagos made it to the OPIC bus stop while I was at the roundabout at the airport. The motorcyclists claim that when he attempted to enter the estate, there was no traffic on the express, and that he did not have the brakes before colliding with the market and killing a person.
When questioned about the truck driver’s intentions, the eyewitness responded, “No one was chasing him; it was only him that was coming.”

By swerving to the right, the truck reportedly made an effort to avoid hitting the estate gate, but instead it slammed into market stalls, hurting innocent victims and destroying goods and structures in its path.
A local tea shop owner who was only serving his regular customers at the time of the accident is the only one who has been confirmed as the fatality.
A night security guard at the market who was one of the injured victims shared his account of the truck’s collision.
“This place’s security guard is me. Because I work night shifts, I have to get up early to get my people to wake up before they even begin their day.
“I had just called the tea store to give me tea, and I only experienced it once when I audible loud noises.” The truck pushed me as I leaned up, and I fell.
“It’s because God saved me that I fell to the right, and if I had followed the other side, I would have perished,” said the statement. The person who makes me tea is also a deceased one.
The total number of injured people is not yet known.
A van and a Sienna were among the two parked vehicles, according to witnesses, who were able to lessen the impact of the collision. The trucks were stationed in front of the market, which is believed to have slowed the truck down, preventing further fatalities.
Local authorities and emergency personnel are still working on the wreckage while the damage is being assessed.
