As the mystery surrounding John’s death grows, actor Oliver Farnworth admitted he was devastated to see his evil character beheaded. He admitted he had a secret desire to stay on the soap forever.
In a dramatic cliffhanger at the end of the Corriedale episode, Emmerdale fans saw Victoria Sugden standing over the dead body of her half brother John. Flashback scenes will reveal if she killed arch villain John Sugden, who has finally got his comeuppance for killing Nate Robinson and the havoc he has wreaked since arriving in the Dales 18 months ago.
However, Oliver Farnworth, an actor, is devastated by John’s passing. “To do the story and the character justice, it’s important villains get their comeuppance,” he says. I personally wanted to stay forever at Emmerdale. There, I adored it. I wish he hadn’t been killed off because I feel so selfishly.
Oliver, 43, has resisted playing such a strong character, saying, “It has been one great story after another.”

After a dramatic chase through the woods, John shot Cain Dingle and knocked Detective Constable Kit Green out at the conclusion of Monday’s Corriedale special, which is a crossover between Emmerdale and Corrie. And fans were horrified to see Victoria standing over John’s corpse rather than Robert Sugden’s.
Even Oliver said, “OMG, where has Victoria come from? ” when she was taken aback. when I was going to read through everything. However, I enjoy the ambiguity surrounding Victoria’s depiction of John’s corpse. It is mysterious. What caused this to occur? She did it, right? Has anyone else done it to himself, or has she just happened to be standing there? You are still unsure.
Although the fact that he has no visible injuries makes this plot so intriguing, it will all be explained in flashback scenes. Oliver said, “I was emotional when I was filming the scenes. Everyone at Emmerdale will be missed. You work so hard with them all, form such strong bonds with them, and then you go on another great adventure.
“But you keep in touch and never forget them.” Danny Miller, who plays Aaron Dingle, has been a dream right from the beginning. He showed me the ropes and took me under his wing. We have laughed a lot on the set, had a lot of fun together, and we’ve done some serious stunts together. He is a brilliant actor, and we have grown close.
Oliver’s acting prowess were put to the test when he played a corpse. He states, “It’s very difficult to play dead!” I had my eyes open during the night shoot, and a crane shot was going over my body. There were lights that resembled the moonlight as I was staring at the trees. I was thinking, “Wow, this is beautiful,” and I was also thinking, “Is the shot almost over? ” I need to hold my breath for another ten seconds. I had to take a test because I don’t sit still very well.
However, being a part of the Corriedale episode was very exciting. It appears to be a movie, in my opinion. Oliver, who played Andy Carver in Corrie between 2014 and 2017, was an oddly nostalgic actor when I joined the Corrie cast.
He chuckles, “It’s art imitating life.” However, seeing some of the familiar faces at Corrie was wonderful. It was lovely to show him where I used to work during the day when Danny and I went there to film there. We all had a great time working together on set, and the night shoots we did together were enjoyable.
He praises Corrie bosses for putting together the stories from both soaps in a blockbuster episode, saying, “It’s genius how they did it. When I first heard about the idea, I wondered, “We’re all going to be on the cobbles or are they coming to the village?” Although I wasn’t sure how they could accomplish it, it was fascinating to watch how the two worlds literally collided.
The Corriedale episode will launch a nightly ‘power hour’ with half an hour of Emmerdale, followed by half an hour of Coronation Street on week nights. “This kicking off the power hour is great,” says Oliver. “It’s such a celebration of both shows and one hour a night where you can get your two favourite soaps is fantastic.”
Oliver had the opportunity to perform some stunts as well as Corriedale. Danny “hits me over the head with a gun” while Corriedale and I kicked a door, he says. But it’s obvious that I didn’t cause us to jump off a cliff top! Thanks to some excellent stunt artists, those stunts have been done.
Oliver has just spent Christmas in Spain, where he has a home with his partner-of-six-years, actress Samantha Womack, who he met in the play The Girl on the Train, finished filming before the festivities. And he says they have no plans to return to the UK – preferring to commute for work. He says: “It always works out alright. The commute back and forth isn’t difficult. We meet back at home in Spain.
We enjoy the outdoors a lot. Spain has excellent food, great dog walks, and a very picturesque year-round quality of life. The beach is nearby, and it’s nice to see family there for a while rather than just for a night or two.
Oliver wants to play a period drama villain next, with a long list of dramas on his resume, including Mr. Selfridge and Endeavour. He states, “I enjoy period drama, I enjoy the stage, and I haven’t written a play in a while.” I might be able to play a significant Victorian villain. The best storylines can always be found playing nice guys, but villains always have the best of them. And John is no exception! Over the past 18 months, he has irritated a lot of people.
Oliver won’t say whether Aaron Dingle and Robert Sugden, who are affectionately known as RobRon by Emmerdale fans, can finally find happiness without John bothering them. He ponders, “Maybe they can.” However, a lot has transpired for them, and now you have Kev. That spanner will be in the works, he promises. Something will always arise in that relationship, which is wonderful because it never seems to be straightforward. In the end, they want to have a love story, but they also want suspense.
And he keeps his identity a secret. He claims, “It’s a really cool twist. The ambiguity is nice, and it leaves you wanting more. How did John’s death occur in this circumstance? Everyone will have to “watch” to learn more.
