The Ijagun-based Tai Solarin University of Education’s rumor has been refuted by the Ogun State Government as Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona University of Education.
In response to rumors that the institution had been given a new name in honor of the late Ijebuland’s Paramount Ruler.
The Sikiru Adetona College of Education, Science and Technology in Omu, an existing institution, already honors the late Awujale, was highlighted by the government.
The government stated that the Ogun State College of Education was founded in 1977 and changed its name to Tai Solarin College of Education, Science and Technology in 1994, citing the university’s history.

The National Universities Commission’s (NCE) and degree programs were later renamed Tai Solarin University of Education in 2005, which sparked controversy regarding its authority to award both NCE and degree programs.
The Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijagun was relocated to Omu in response to the NUC’s position, but the government explained that the Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijagun was still named.
However, the institution was formally renamed the Sikiru Kayode Adetona College of Education, Science, and Technology in honor of the Awujale during Governor Dapo Abiodun’s leadership in 2022.
