Marco Odermatt, a Swiss skier, placed second in the giant slalom at Hafjell, making him just the third skier to win four straight overall World Cup crystal globes.

With five races left in the World Cup season, Odermatt, 27, finished second to Loic Meillard’s in Norway, clinching his fourth giant slalom title in a row.

The World Cup series of alpine skiing’s winners of each of the four categories, downhill, super-G, giant slalom, and slalom, receive crystal globes along with a prize for the overall winner.

Only Annemarie Moser-Proell from Austria and Marcel Hirscher from the Netherlands have previously captured four consecutive World Cup titles.

Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway finished 16th at home, leaving him with a 635-point advantage over his rival in the overall standings after finishing 16th overall.

With this little bumpy road, Odermatt said, “It’s amazing to win this world.”

If you are well-versed in skiing but haven’t done it yet, there is no room for error.

With this GS globe in the pocket, it’s very helpful to concentrate on the last one in the downhill.

Odermatt leads the downhill standings heading into Idaho’s final meeting of the season next week after winning the super-G title for the third year in a row.

Meillard won the giant slalom on Sunday, moving him up to second place overall after his triumph in the previous one. With one more race to go, he is 47 points adrift of Kristoffersen, who finished fifth on Sunday.
