Nuhu Ribadu, the current NSA, is a renowned activist and CODE chief executive, according to Hamzat Lawal, a well-known leader in the field.
In a statement released on Monday, February 24, 2025, in Abuja, Lawal commended Ribadu’s “enduring influence on Nigeria’s youth and his commitment to national service”.
Lawal, who was inspired by Nasir El-Rufai’s inspiring message in 2010, recalls his first encounter with Ribadu.
El-Rufai’s Facebook post, quoted by Lawal, stated: “In an age when elders are telling youths that they are incapable of leading and are not well educated, it is refreshing to listen to Nuhu Ribadu’s message of hope. Please give this a watch and a pass. Nigerian youths need to hear this message of encouragement… Nasir”.
“As I looked at him, I saw myself soaring above the confines of the environmental sector”, Lawal stated.
He claimed that Ribadu changed from being a global citizen with an interest in environmental issues to a Nigerian citizen who was ultimately committed to advancing his nation.
Lawal identified Ribadu as his mentor, saying, “That was the beginning of my relationship with Ribadu. I was psychologically prepared for impact when we eventually met a few years later.
He claimed that Ribadu inspired him to work on his most successful career and to write Follow the Money, his main project.
Lawal said:
“An apparent mastermind of his desires.” a person who spent the majority of his life having clear vision. He was aware of the issues facing his nation.
He was aware that unless the system was sanitized and cleaned up, the reforms that the citizens yearned for would never occur.
Addressing criticisms against Ribadu’s current role as Nigeria’s NSA, Lawal said: “Those that do not know him would think he is just another politician here to feather his nest. Those who misunderstand him would paint him in the hackneyed and contrived hue of a loose cannon.
“Those who merely envious his position will willfully turn legitimate tools of investigation into cots of calumny,” he said.
On Ribadu’s past achievements as the pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lawal stated:” He not only fought and defeated corruption, he instilled a new culture in Nigeria and beyond.
He “sparked the fire that burned in many other young leaders across Africa’s length and breadth.” He demonstrated that corruption is preventable and can be prevented.
The activist also expressed confidence in Ribadu’s ability to serve as the director of national security.
