Sivert Guttorm Bakken, a biathlete from Norway who had hoped to compete in the Winter Olympics in February, passed away at the age of 27.
Bakken, who has been unable to compete since 2022 due to myocarditis, made a second appearance in 2024.
His return to the sport was described as a “source of immense joy,” according to the International Biathlon Union president.
Everyone in the biathlon family found him to be extremely happy and an inspiring example of his resilience and determination, according to Olle Dahlin.
His passing at such a young age is beyond our comprehension, but he will always be remembered and will be so forever.
