Andreas Schjelderup, a football player for the Norwegian national team, was found guilty of sharing sexual material with two underage boys and given a suspended prison sentence by a Danish court.
Schjelderup, age 21, stated to the Copenhagen court that he had forwarded the 27-second video to a group chat of four friends after playing for Danish side FC Nordsjaelland last year.
The winger, who plays for Portuguese club Benfica, admitted guilt on Wednesday and admitted to being aware that the video’s subjects were underage.
“I quickly realized that it was illegal as I forwarded it to my friends,” Schjelderup said.
Schjelderup apologized and said he wanted to be “open to all of you about a stupid mistake I did” in a statement posted on Instagram on Saturday.
Schjelderup will only serve time in jail if found guilty of another crime within the next twelve months, as per Judge Mathias Eike’s two-week suspended prison sentence.
The prosecution had requested that Schjelderup be given a minimum sentence of 20 days in prison.
The defense would have a chance to deliberate before deciding whether to file an appeal, according to his attorney, Anders Nemeth.
