The late entry of Manchester City into the transfer market on deadline day underscores how troubling these times are for Pep Guardiola and his team.

With no credit for the Englishman, who was one of the few City players who emerged victorious from Sunday’s defeat at Brighton thanks to summer signing James Trafford, he has started all three games so far this season.

City and Guardiola acted quickly with the sale of Ederson to Fenerbahce in an effort to revive a squad that is struggling in the first half of the campaign after the Italian international had been sold to Paris St-Germain for £26 million.

City defeated Tottenham and the Seagulls to start the Premier League season with a thumping 4-0 victory over Wolves, but they have since come off the ground again.

Guardiola criticized City’s late capitulation on Sunday, letting them lose 2-1 after conceding in the final minute and losing the game by a score of 1-0.

With their summer spending now totaling more than £180 million, Guardiola has turned to Donnarumma to help them resolve their issues.

How Ederson changed the role of goalkeeper

Premier League teams travel abroad for a while, but City’s preparations aren’t ideal for their crucial game against Manchester United on Sunday, September 14.

Ruben Amorim, the manager of the Red Devils, appears to have been in charge during a crisis, but Guardiola’s team is one point ahead of them.

Former City goalkeeper Joe Hart claimed that the current situation is “not a crisis” but rather a “difficult moment” in defense despite “alarming patterns” in the defense.

Donnarumma, a former AC Milan keeper, is said to have led a squad that has lost Kevin de Bruyne, Kyle Walker, and Jack Grealish from the dressing room, according to sources.

His big-game success helped him win the Treble with PSG last year, and England’s hearts were broken by his heroic penalty shootout heroics in the 2020 European Championship final.

Under Guardiola, City’s philosophy has always been to play back from the back with Ederson, but based on current evidence, Donnarumma may not be able to create as many attacks and fizz passes into the middle as the Brazilian could.

Ederson’s departure comes after eight years as undisputed number one, which included eight assists and six league titles. He also revolutionized the role of a goalkeeper in English top flight.

Former City keeper Peter Schmeichel remarked on BBC Radio 5 Live, “The way Pep likes to play and what has made them one of the most successful teams in Premier League history revolve around Ederson and his incredible ball control.”

Managers tell players to avoid pressing on him when they play at Man City; this wastes energy. Even in front of his own goal, he can play the short game. He can pass for 80 yards even when under pressure. He has always been a threat to everyone.

We are unaware of the circumstance. Are they still together? Did Ederson request a departure? Everyone has had an opportunity, but Ederson is not the same as him.

From where does Trafford depart?

In the summer of 2017, Trafford signed for £27 million, and he was anticipating a top-five spot with Ederson when he competed for it.

However, with doubts lingering over the Brazilian’s future, 22-year-old Trafford was given the gloves and kept a clean sheet on his debut with a strong performance at Molineux.

However, he struggled a lot in the subsequent game when Tottenham won with a score of 2-0 at home. Although Guardiola had the option to leave him for the trip to Brighton, he was still expected to start in goal, and despite City losing once more, he managed to save five shots.

According to club insiders, Trafford has an “amazing” future and is older than they think, which was their intention when they made his signing in July.

Guardiola should have plenty of first-team opportunities this year, despite the fact that City has played in four competitions and suddenly doesn’t rate Trafford.
