Nigerian Footballer Abubakar Lawal Falls To Death In Uganda

Nigerian football player Abubakar Lawal died on a balcony in a Kampala shopping mall, according to an announcement from the national police on Monday.

The 29-year-old striker played for local premiership club Vipers.

According to a statement from the police, he fell from the third floor of the Voicemall Shopping Arcade early on Monday.

He was visiting a friend from Tanzania who was staying in one of the mall’s residential apartments.

The friend reported to the police that she had abandoned him without a trace.

According to police, “agents are retrieving CCTV footage and conducting thorough interrogations to determine the specifics of the incident.”

The Vipers Sports Club said in a statement: “Abubakar Lawal, our dear friend, passed away suddenly and untimely, leaving us this morning.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Lawal’s family, club fans, friends and loved ones during this difficult time”, it added.

Lawal had spent two years with AS Kigali in Rwanda before joining the team in July 2022.
