Niger Women Affairs Ministry Hosts New Year Party For Orphans, Vulnerable Children

To celebrate the New Year’s Eve in 2026, the Niger State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development organized a special children’s party for underprivileged and orphans.

The Honorable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hadiza Idris-Kuta, who spoke at the event, stated that the initiative is meant to make vulnerable children smile and prevent them from being forgotten, especially during the festive holiday season.

The children’s expressions of happiness, in her opinion, reflected the program’s main goals.

Everyone is happy when their children are. We wanted to show the less privileged and vulnerable children, especially during their holidays, where they deserve special attention, that is what we set out to do, she said.

Governor Umaru Bago and Fatima Bago, the state’s governor, expressed their gratitude and support for the state’s children’s welfare. She noted that the children received beverages, food, ice cream, popcorn, and other treats, and that their joy and excitement reflected the success of the event.

Kuta disclosed that the ministry has a number of children’s programs planned, with particular attention given to education, digital literacy, computer skills, and emerging technologies.

We want our children to be aware of what is happening in the world today and be able to adapt to the changing technological environment, while also making sure they are safe, agile, and well-cared for, she continued.

The First Lady’s wife, Ramatu Batamangi, also addressed the audience, stating that the main purpose of the celebration was to spread love, compassion, and care among the children. She explained that the occasion was planned to celebrate with them, wish them a prosperous new year, and encourage them to work toward a better future.

She described First Lady Fatima Bago as a loving mother and grandmother who enjoys having children at all times, not just during the holiday season.

She considers every child to be her own and finds joy in seeing them smile. We are here today to remind them that we are loved and that we are there with them, she said.

Ismaila Christopher and Eniola Samuel, who spoke to Channels Television, expressed their joy at winning the event’s dance competition.

“I’m delighted that I won the dancing contest. I’m wearing this T-shirt for this reason. I thank Governor Umaru Bago and our mother Fatima Bago. They expressed their satisfaction at being here.
